Ten sport zadebiutuje oficjalnie na Igrzyskach Olimpijskich w Paryżu, ale już teraz cieszy się coraz większym powodzeniem, wciąż powiększając grono zwolenników. Kitesurfing, czyli mówiąc najogólniej: połączenie deski i… latawca.
W miniony weekend na Półwyspie Helskim, na kampingu Chałupy 3, odbyły się zawody XV sezonu Ford Kite Cup, organizowane przez Polski Związek Kiteboardingu.
Wyjątkowa sytuacja, w jakiej się znaleźliśmy z uwagi na panującą pandemię, ale i niezbyt optymistyczne prognozy wiatrowe, budziły duże obawy o przebieg zawodów. Na szczęście okazały się płonne. Dopisali zarówno zawodnicy, jak i pogoda.
W sobotę od rana rozpoczęła się rywalizacja w konkurencji Formuła Kite. Jest to forma wyścigów, w której startować będą zawodnicy także na Igrzyskach Olimpijskich w Paryżu, gdzie kitesurfing oficjalnie zadebiutuje.
Łącznie w czasie dwóch dni rywalizacji odbyło się 18 wyścigów w zbliżonych warunkach wiatrowych po stronie morskiej, przy niewielkiej fali i wietrze o sile około 10 węzłów.
W kategorii mężczyzn zdecydowanie triumfował Jakub Jurkowski, wygrywając większość wyścigów. Drugi był Michał Wojciechowski, a trzeci Jakub Wątorowski. Wśród kobiet zwyciężyła Julia Damasiewicz, pokonując z dużą przewagą punktową, drugą w finalnej klasyfikacji Magdalenę Woyciechowską. Trzecie miejsce zajęła Nina Arcisz.
O ile nawet niewielki wiatr umożliwia rozegranie wyścigów w Formule Kite, to w przypadku konkurencji Freestyle potrzebna jest większa moc. Niespodziewanie drugiego dnia zawodów wiatr wzmógł się na tyle, żeby freestylowcy mogli wejść na wodę na dużych latawcach. Udało się rozegrać kategorię młodzików, a także większość heatów kobiet i mężczyzn. Niestety pod wieczór wiatr się uspokoił i nie udało się dokończyć ostatniego heatu mężczyzn, a co za tym idzie finałów. Zawodnicy byli bardzo zmotywowani do dokończenia rozgrywek i czuwali w gotowości od 6 rano w niedzielę. Niestety wiatr ostatniego dnia zawodów nie był wystarczająco mocny aby móc rozegrać ostatnie heaty. W związku z tym wyłoniono cztery pierwsze miejsca ex aequo wśród kobiet: Natalia Grabowska, Martyna Konkel, Katarzyna Lange, Alina Ungeheuer, oraz osiem miejsc ex aequo wśród mężczyzn: Oskar Cholewiński, Mikołaj Gregier, Łukasz Katana, Eryk Kargul, Jacek Libera, Maksymilian Mielczarek, Krzesimir Przybyłowski, Mateusz Włodarczyk.
Zawody wspierał Polski Związek Kiteboardingu oraz firmy Duotone i Ion – czołowi producenci sprzętu do kitesurfingu. Zawodnikom dodawał skrzydeł niezawodny Red Bull.
Z lekkim niedosytem, zawodnicy i kibice czekają na kolejne zawody z cyklu Ford Kite Cup, które odbędą się w dniach 24-26.07.2020 w Rewie, pod nazwą Ford Kuga Kite Challenge.
