Eliminacje zakończone, od poniedziałku rusza drabinka!

Weronika Falkowska walczyła dzielnie, lecz w eliminacjach nie zdołała pokonać Kateryny Bondarenko (na zdjęciu). Mimo iż przegrała z Ukrainką 3:6, 6:7(3), to zagra w turnieju głównym singla BNP Paribas Poland Open jako „lucky looser”.

Ostatnia korekta listy zgłoszeń do turnieju olimpijskiego w Tokio oraz seria kontuzji w turniejach kończących się dziś w innych miastach sprawiły, że w Gdyni zwolniło się aż pięć miejsc. Los zadecydował, że Weronika Falkowska jeszcze raz zagra z Kateryną Bondarenko. Czy wolałaby zmierzyć się z inną, być może mniej wymagającą rywalką?

– Nie! – odpowiedziała bez chwili wahania. – Już wiem, jak z nią grać.

Najważniejsza zmiana zaszła na szczycie drabinki w turnieju głównym singla. Z powodu wyjazdu na igrzyska olimpijskie z BNP Paribas Poland Open wycofała się Julia Putincewa. Jej miejsce zajęła Nuria Parrizas-Diaz, która w tej sytuacji została rozstawiona z numerem 9 i w pierwszej rundzie zagra z Magdaleną Fręch.

W turnieju singlowym wystąpią także Katarzyna Kawa, Urszula Radwańska i Weronika Baszak.

Dziś odbyło się również losowanie turnieju deblowego. Drugą „dziką kartę” dostały Weronika Baszak i Warwara Flink. W pierwszej rundzie para polsko-rosyjska zmierzy się z Anną Daniliną z Kazachstanu i Lidzią Marozawą z Białorusi. Weronika Falkowska i Paula Kania-Choduń, które do wspólnego występu w Gdyni przygotowują się już od kilku dni, zagrają z rozstawionymi z numerem 4 Kateryną Bondarenko i Katarzyną Piter (czyli Falkowska i Bondarenko spotkają się aż trzy razy).
W turnieju deblowym mamy jeszcze dwie polskie pary. Magdalena Fręch i Katarzyna Kawa, finalistki zakończonych wczoraj mistrzostw kraju, wylosowały Alenę Fominę (Rosja) i Terezę Mrdezę (Chorwacja), natomiast Anna Hertel i Martyna Kubka, zwyciężczynie niedawnego turnieju ITF we Wrocławiu – Irinę Barę (Rumunia) i Varvarę Lepchenko (USA).
Plan gier na poniedziałek (początek o 11:00) obejmuje sześć meczów singlowych i trzy deblowe. Szczególnie serdecznie kibiców zapraszają – i proszą o doping – Polki. Najwcześniej o 15:00 Weronika Falkowska spróbuje zrewanżować się Katerynie Bondarenko, a następnie na kort centralny wyjdzie Urszula Radwańska, która zmierzy się z Kristiną Kuczovą.
