W Pucharze Polski z PGE Skrą!

W piątkowe popołudnie poznaliśmy pary ćwierćfinałowej rywalizacji Pucharu Polski. Przeciwnikiem Trefla Gdańsk będzie PGE Skra Bełchatów. Mecz odbędzie się 16 lub 17 lutego na wyjeździe, bowiem bełchatowianie po pierwszej rundzie rozgrywek byli wyżej notowani i do losowania przystępowali jako drużyna rozstawiona.

W ćwierćfinałach Pucharu Polski zagra sześć najlepszych drużyn PlusLigi po pierwszej rundzie rozgrywek – obok Trefla Gdańsk to Grupa Azoty ZAKSA, Jastrzębski Węgiel, PGE Skra, Aluron CMC oraz Asseco Resovia – a także finaliści TAURON Pucharu I ligi – BBTS Bielsko-Biała i BKS VISŁA Bydgoszcz. Gdańszczanie, jako piąta drużyna po pierwszej rundzie, trafili na rozstawioną PGE Skrę (trzeci zespół w tabeli po pierwszej rundzie). Dla bełchatowian i gdańszczan będzie to już drugie starcie w tym roku w bełchatowskiej hali Energia. 9 stycznia „gdańskie lwy” wygrały na terenie rywala 3:1 w ramach zmagań PlusLigi.

– Na pewno będzie to bardzo ciężki mecz i sądzę, że będzie to druga bardzo ciekawa para ćwierćfinałowa – tak jak Rzeszów z ZAKSĄ, tak i my z Bełchatowem. Na pewno PGE Skra to rywal bardzo trudny, dodatkowo mecz odbywa się w ich hali, natomiast my jeszcze przed sezonem mówiliśmy, że Puchar Polski to dla nas bonus i nagroda za dobrą grę w rundzie zasadniczej. Do Bełchatowa pojedziemy z bojowym nastawieniem, ale przede wszystkim cieszyć się siatkówką i cieszyć się, że mamy możliwość zagrania o awans do Final Four – powiedział po poznaniu wyników losowania trener Michał Winiarski.  

Trefl Gdańsk od sezonu 2014/2015 niemal co roku kwalifikuje się do ćwierćfinałowych zmagań Pucharu Polski, za wyjątkiem sezonu 2018/2019. W 2015 roku gdańszczanie po raz pierwszy sięgnęli po to trofeum, następnie w sezonach 2015/2016 oraz 2016/2017 kończyli swój udział w rywalizacji na etapie półfinałowym, a w styczniu 2018 roku po raz drugi w historii zdobyli Puchar. Rok temu „gdańskie lwy” ponownie awansowały do półfinałów, pokonując w ćwierćfinale po tie-breaku Jastrzębski Węgiel, ale turniej finałowy ostatecznie nie doszedł do skutku z uwagi na pandemię. W tym roku przed Treflem kolejne trudne zadanie. Mecz z PGE Skrą odbędzie się we wtorek lub środę 16 lub 17 lutego (dokładne daty i godziny mają być znane w poniedziałek).
