Sytuacja w tabeli mocno się jednak skomplikowała i przy sprzyjających okolicznościach gdynianie mają jeszcze realne szanse na grę w barażach. Mogli sobie tę szansę zagwarantować dziś. Musieli jednak pokonać zdecydowanego lidera grupy spadkowej MKS Kalisz i liczyć na porażkę Stali Mielec w meczu z Energą Wybrzeżem.

Do 20 minuty mecz był wyrównany i nie było widać różnicy, która dzieli oba zespoły w tabeli. Żadnej z drużyn nie udawało się uzyskać większej przewagi i prowadzenie przechodziło z rąk do rąk. Grzechem gdynian było nieodpowiedzialne zachowanie się po uzyskaniu prowadzenia. Czego, jak czego, ale serca do walki zawodnikom Arki odmówić nie można. Drugą połowę zagrali bardzo ambitnie i mimo iż pierwsza bramka po przerwie należała do gości, dzięki fantastycznej postawie w bramce Macieja Pieńczewskiego po szybkich atakach głównie Michała Skwierawskiego i Rafała Rychlewskiego na nieco ponad kwadrans przed końcem doprowadzili do remisu (22:22). Obie ekipy walczyły łeb w łeb, a po trafieniu tego ostatniego w 56 minucie, miejscowi wyszli nawet na prowadzenie 28:27. Niestety, chwile później czerwoną kartkę ujrzał Krzysztof Jasowicz, a kaliszanie rzucili trzy bramki z rzędu (28:30). To jednak nie załamało zawodników Dawida Nilssona. Trzeci faul popełnił także Artur Bożek i również ujrzał czerwony kartonik, a rzut karny na bramkę zamienił Rychlewski. Do końca pozostała niespełna minuta, gdy piłkę po nieskutecznej akcji Energi odzyskali arkowcy. Tym razem nie chcieli popełnić błędu z podobnej sytuacji, jaką mieli w meczu przeciwko Enerdze Wybrzeże Gdańsk przed kilkunastoma dniami, gdy próbowali zagrać o zwycięstwo i szybko rozegrali akcję. Dziś postanowili doprowadzić do remisu i szukać szczęścia w karnych. Długo rozgrywali piłkę, próbując wypracować sobie pewną sytuację do rzutu. Niestety, zamiar Dawida Przysieka odczytał Michał Bałwas, przechwycił jego podanie i pomknął z kontrą na gdyńską bramkę pokonując po raz szósty Pieńczewskiego, czym przypieczętował wygraną swojej drużyny 31:29. Szkoda, bo to już co najmniej drugi mecz frajersko przegrany w końcówce przez gdyński zespół.

Na szczęście wieczorem z Mielca napłynęła krzepiąca wieść: Stal przegrała z gdańszczanami 23:24 i kwestia kolejności na dwóch ostatnich w tabeli pozostaje otwarta. Przy czym, zwycięstwo w Gdańsku, niezależnie od wyniku rywali, da Arce baraż.
