Najpierw zagubiła się po drodze część sprzętu sportowego ekipy austriackiej i jej mecz z Norwegią został przełożony na wieczór. Potem z powodu uszkodzenia tafli przerwany został na początku trzeciej tercji mecz Polska – Dania przy stanie 1:0 po trafieniu Dominika Pasia. Lodowisko zostało naprawione, jednak Austriacy z Norwegami rozegrali tylko jedną tercję, znów na przeszkodzie stanął stan lodowiska. Spotkanie pomiędzy zespołami elity – Austrią i Norwegia zapowiadało się bardzo emocjonująco.
Drużyna austriacka z konieczności zagrała osłabiona – w podróży zaginął bowiem bagaż ze sprzętem części zawodników i do rywalizacji z Wikingami przystępowała ona w zaledwie 14-osobowym składzie. Osłabienia tego jednak nie było widać na lodzie – od początku gra była bardzo wyrównana, z optyczną przewagą Austriaków. Przewaga ta została udokumentowana jednym trafieniem – gola w 17 minucie meczu strzelił Fabio Hofer. Wynikiem 1:0 zakończyła się pierwsza tercja tego spotkania i …cały mecz. Z powodu kłopotów z lodem i czerwoną linią mecz w drugiej tercji nie został wznowiony, obydwa zespoły podziękowały sobie za 20 minut gry i zjechały do szatni. Jedynym pocieszeniem dla reprezentacji Austrii był fakt, że… 10 minut po przymusowym zakończeniu meczu z Norwegami do Gdańska dojechał ich zagubiony sprzęt meczowy.
