Początek spotkania nie wyglądał źle w wykonaniu GTPR-u Gdynia. Szczególnie dobrze gospodynie wykonywały rzuty karne, a kiedy z siódmego metra trafiła Kinga Gutkowska, w 9. minucie było już 5:3 dla miejscowych. W ataku pozycyjnym gra gdynianek wyglądała jednak o wiele gorzej.

Bramkarka Beata Kowalczyk, która do Koszalina trafiła z… Gdyni, przy pomocy szczelnej koszalińskiej obrony potrafiła wykorzystać problemy ofensywne Energi AZS-u i do 34. minuty straciła z gry zaledwie trzy bramki! Dobrze pomiędzy słupkami GTPR-u spisywała się też Weronika Kordowiecka, jednak to było za mało. O skuteczności obu defensyw niech świadczy choćby fakt, że przez 8 minut (między 20, a 28) żadna z drużyn nie zdobyła bramki. Passę przerwała jednak Dominika Grobelska i pierwsza połowa zakończyła się ostatecznie prowadzeniem gościń 6:9.

Koszalinianki, które przed meczem zajmowały piąte miejsce w ligowej tabeli po przerwie również prezentowały się niezwykle solidnie. Klasą samą dla siebie była Romana Roszak, która rzuciła 9 z 37 bramek zdobytych przez obie drużyny!

Gdy w 40. minucie ze skrzydła trafiła Grobelska, Energa AZS Koszalin wyszła na prowadzenie 14:9 i wydawało się, że zwycięstwo koszalinianek jest już blisko. W tym momencie jednak straty zaczęła odrabiać ekipa gospodyń.

GTPR odrabiał dystans mozolnie, ale konsekwentnie. Na cztery minuty przed końcem, gdy trafiła Aleksandra Zych było już tylko 17:18! Sama końcówka była prowadzona w niezwykle nerwowej atmosferze. Niespełna 10 sekund przed końcem prowadząca 19:18 Energa AZS straciła piłkę, jednak w ostatniej rozpaczliwej akcji nie zdołała już nic zdziałać Zych. Jej uderzenie obroniła Kowalczyk i GTPR poniósł kolejną porażkę 18:19. Oznacza ona spadek na piątą lokatę przed decydującą rundą rozgrywek i powiększenie dystansu do strefy medalowej.
