Na początku spotkania trafiali Robert Kamyszek ze Spójni i Mateusz Zaremba z Pogoni, po długo konstruowanych akcjach. Od samego początku w bardzo dobrze dysponowany był w Mateusz Zimakowski.
Pierwsza kontra w wykonaniu gości i trafienie Dawida Krysiaka dały przyjezdnym pierwsze prowadzenie w meczu (4:5). Do tego Rafał Rychlewski zmarnował karnego, a grający w osłabieniu przyjezdni, za sprawą Wojciecha Jońcy rzucili bramkę na 6:4. Rychlewski szybko się jednak zrehabilitował. Najpierw trafił z gry, następie rzucił skutecznie z 7. metra i było 6:6. Mało tego, wykorzystał także kolejnego karnego, którego gospodarze wywalczyli grając w osłabieniu (7:6).
Kolejne świetne obrony Zimakowskiego, skuteczny karny w wykonaniu Rychlewskiego i Spójnia prowadziła w 24. min. 10:8. A po czasie dla trenera Marcina Markuszewskiego przewagę podwyższył Kamil Pedryc (11:8). Na tym jednak Spójnia nie poprzestała i kolejne dwa trafienia dołożył Bogdan Oliferchuk (13:8).
Początek drugiej połowy przyniósł ponownie dobrą grę Pogoni. Mocniejsza obrona, trzy skuteczne ataki i w 36. min. było już tylko 14:12 dla Spójni. Niemoc gospodarzy przełamał Paweł Ćwikliński (15:12). Ponowne trafienia Rychlewskiego i Kamyszka dały 4 bramki przewagi (19:15). Goście starali się zniwelować przewagę zdobywając kolejne gole, jednak złą serię przerwał Oliferchuk, który sprytnie pokonał bramkarza Pogoni. Czwartego z rzędu dobrze wykonanego karnego dołożył Rychlewski i sytuacja wróciła do normy (21:17). Ostatnią bramkę w meczu w efektowny sposób zdobywa Ćwikliński i ostatecznie Spójnia Gdynia wygrywa z Sandrą Spa Pogoń Szczecin 24:18. Pierwsze, historyczne zwycięstwo Spójni w PGNiG Superlidze staje się faktem. Gdyński zespół i kibice czekali na nie aż do 5 kolejki.
