Mecz od pierwszych piłek zaczął się układać pod dyktando gości. Kiedy w pole serwisowe wszedł Serhiy Kapelus uzyskali oni kilka punktów przewagi, którą systematycznie powiększali. Po elementarnym błędzie Jakubiszaka w ataku i po chwili, po skutecznym bloku Gert Van Walle, z przewagi LOTOSu Trefla nie pozostało nic, a goście „poczuli krew”. Coraz bardziej denerwujący się gdańszczanie popełnili 4 błędy, co dało ich rywalom czteropunktową przewagę (18:22). Z miejscowych w tym momencie całkowicie „zeszło powietrze” i… poddali się. Mecz zakończył atakiem były gracz LOTOSu Trefla, Rafał Sobański, a statuetkę MVP otrzymał Serhiy Kapelus, zdobywca 19 punktów i autor 4 asów.

Z trybun porażkę gdańskich siatkarzy obserwował m.in. wierny kibic tej drużyny – Dariusz Michalczewski. Za boiskiem zaś poczynania gdańszczan śledził św. Mikołaj, który miejmy nadzieję, nie poskąpił im po meczu rózeg.
