20 sierpnia na Stadionie Wojska Polskiego w Warszawie odbyło się spotkanie piłkarskiej Ekstraklasy pomiędzy zespołem Mistrza Polski – Legii Warszawa, a beniaminkiem z Gdyni, czyli naszą Arką. Spotkanie to poprzedzało mecz rewanżowy czwartej rundy eliminacji Ligi Mistrzów z Dundalk FC, więc trener Besnik Hasi postanowił bardzo mocno namieszać w wyjściowej jedenastce – z nominalnej podstawowej drużyny Legii wyszedł tylko Arkadiusz Malarz, a całą resztę jedenastki stanowili zawodnicy rezerwowi lub nawet ściągnięci z drużyny rezerw. W dodatku Legia wyszła w ustawieniu 3-5-2, w którym jeszcze w tym sezonie ani w poprzednim warszawskiej drużyny na boisku nigdy nie widzieliśmy. A to nie była jedyna rzecz, która pomogła Arce w tym meczu – bardzo wydatnie wspomógł żółto-niebieskich Jakub Rzeźniczak. To, że Rzeźniczak w pewnym momencie w niewytłumaczalny sposób zapomniał jak grać w piłkę, jest oczywiste od jakiegoś czasu. Regularnie popełniał głupie błędy, gubił krycie, futbolówka mu odskakiwała. Dziś jednak obrońca Legii przelał czarę goryczy – tak fatalnych 45 minut w wykonaniu jednego piłkarza nie widziano w tej lidze od bardzo dawna. Gdy Marcus Da Silva wbiegał dziś w pole karne gospodarzy, prawdopodobnie nie spodziewał się, że dostanie otwierające podanie od przeciwnika. Rzeźniczak chciał wykopać piłkę przed siebie, ale zamiast tego fatalnie skiksował – piłka poturlała się do boku, a zawodnik Arki brutalnie to wykorzystał, ustalając wynik na 1:0 dla gości. Podopieczni Grzegorza Nicińskiego byli świetnie zorganizowani, czego nie można było powiedzieć w tym meczu o legionistach, którzy w zasadzie poruszali się po boisku jak pijane dzieci we mgle. Adam Marciniak dał prawdziwe show strzelając dwie bramki, przy czym przy pierwszej pomógł mu Maciej Dąbrowski, zmieniając rykoszetem tor lotu piłki, myląc Malarza. Brazylijczyk Guilherme rozruszał nieco grę Legii po przerwie, asystując przy trafieniu Kaspra Hamalainena na 1:3, ale nie zmieniło to oblicza meczu. Arka byłą po prostu lepsza, do tego doszła przyzwoita skuteczność, odrobina zadziorności i summa summarum bardzo dobry wynik.
Antoni Łukasiewicz: – Wielka duma i wielka satysfakcja. Legia to klasowy zespół, bez względu na to jaką jedenastkę wystawi. Posiadają bardzo szeroką kadrę i bardzo wyrównaną. Mieliśmy świadomość, że to będzie bardzo trudny mecz i to tak na prawdę się dziś potwierdziło. Udowodniliśmy, że jesteśmy zespołem, który ma wiarę i ducha zespołu. Każdy za każdego wykonuje wielką pracę na boisku. Cieszymy się, że możemy się zapisać w annałach klubowych z pierwszym zwycięstwem w Warszawie na Łazienkowskiej. Wspierani byliśmy dziś przez wspaniałą grupę naszych kibiców. To są takie chwile dla których warto żyć i warto się poświęcać. Oby tak dalej.(…) Jest duch drużyny, ten tak zwany team spirit, cały zespół żyje na boisku jak i poza nim.
W przewie powtarzaliśmy sobie, że gramy cały czas tak samo. Nie pozwalamy Legii konstruować akcji, w każdej wolnej chwili staraliśmy się złapać oddech.
