Centrum sportowo-pobytowe 31 maja otrzymało imię legendy polskiej piłki – Włodzimierza Lubańskiego.
Włodzimierz Lubański od samego początku tworzenia tej placówki był jej ogromnym orędownikiem i… patronem. Żywo interesował się wszystkim, co się w Gniewinie dzieje. Kiedy wójt gminy Gniewino Zbigniew Walczak zaproponował, by nadać ośrodkowi imię znakomitego polskiego piłkarza, bez wahania sie zgodził.
Uroczystość rozpoczęła się od przemarszu orkiestry oraz reprezentantów drużyn dziecięcych wokół boiska. Orszak zatrzymał się przed trybuną honorową na której zasiedli obok Lubańskiego, małżonka i córka piłkarza, a także prezes PZPN Zbigniew Boniek. Uważne oko obserwatora dostrzegło też wśród widzów ikonę pomorskiej piłki Romana Korynta, wielokrotnego reprezentanta kraju, licznych dziennikarzy oraz… Tadeusza Drozdę. Po laudacji, którą wygłosił wójt Walczak i pokazie filmu o dokonaniach bohatera uroczystości przeszedł on w towarzystwie prezesa PZPN i wójta pod budynek administracyjny, gdzie dokonał osobiście odsłonięcia tablicy upamiętniającej patronat.
– Dlaczego on (Włodzimierz Lubański – przyp. red.) został patronem? Ponieważ był ambasadorem naszego projektu – uzasadniał wójt Walczak. – Poza tym jest to człowiek, który brał udział w wielu projektach sportowych realizowanych przez Ambasadę Polski w Brukseli. Tam się zaczęła nasza znajomość i przez Euro 2012 poprosiłem go, aby był naszym ambasadorem. To wielki piłkarz ogromnego talentu, a także człowiek pełen skromności i wiedzy. Dziękujemy ci, Włodku, za wszystko, co zrobiłeś dla naszej piłki i dla nas.
Kilka ciepłych słów na temat Lubańskiego powiedział tam również prezes Boniek, dodając, że Pan Włodzimierz był dla niego idolem. I to nie tylko jako piłkarz, ale także jako człowiek. – To wyjątkowy dzień, bo nie jest żadną tajemnicą, że Włodek Lubański jest piłkarzem, na którym się wychowałem, który był dla mnie wzorem i pierwszym piłkarzem, w którym byłem normalnie zakochany. Włodku, nauczyłeś nas, jak być piłkarzem!
Wyraźnie wzruszony bohater uroczystości nie krył swoich emocji. – Dla mnie to, że jestem patronem tego obiektu, jest wielkim wyróżnieniem nie tylko osobistym, ale też polskiego piłkarstwa. Takie obiekty powinny powstawać, ponieważ właśnie tu, podczas przygotowań do różnych imprez, mamy okazję zobaczyć przyszłych medalistów Europy, świata i Igrzysk Olimpijskich. Życzę, aby ten ośrodek był cały czas używany i aby tu kształcili się przyszli polscy reprezentanci.
Po części oficjalnej odbył się mecz, w którym zmierzyły się: reprezentacja PZPN, w której składzie wystąpili m.in. dawni reprezentanci kraju, jak Maciej Szczęsny, Stefan Majewski, Tomasz Kłos, Marek Koźmiński, Andrzej Juskowiak, Piotr Świerczewski oraz drużyna oldbojów województwa pomorskiego m.in z Grzegorzem Nicińskim, Piotrem Rzepką, Tomaszem Kafarskim, czy Tomaszem Koryntem.
Od początku naparli byli reprezentanci Polski i dość szybko po dwóch bramkach Tomasza Kłosa objęli prowadzenie 2:0. Ich rywalom udało się jednak jeszcze przed przerwą wyrównać, a w drugiej połowie dorzucić jeszcze dwie bramki i pokonać byłych reprezentantów Polski 4:2.
Mecz sędziował Michał Listkiewicz i Katarzyna Wierzbowska, jako sędziowie główni, a komentował Dariusz Szpakowski. Chociaż był to mecz towarzyski, zawodnicy obu drużyn nie odpuszczali i po dość zaciętym spotkaniu, lepsi okazali się gospodarze.
W przerwie meczu Włodzimierz Lubański, Zbigniew Boniek i Zbigniew Walczak, wręczyli puchary i nagrody młodym piłkarzom z rocznika 2004/2005, którzy uczestniczyli w zorganizowanym z okazji tej uroczystości międzyszkolnym turnieju piłkarskim pn. „Rozgrzewka przed EURO 2016„. W turnieju, w którym udział wzięły zespoły ze szkół w Żelistrzewie, Choczewie, Wierzchucinie, Bożympolu Wielkim, Łęczycach, Linii i dwa zespoły ze szkoły w Gniewinie, poszczególnym drużynom przypisano nazwy państw uczestniczących w tegorocznej edycji EURO. Najlepsza okazała się pierwsza drużyna z Gniewina występująca pod szyldem reprezentacji Polski. Drugie miejsce zajęła drużyna z Wierzchucina (Albania) a trzecie z Żelistrzewa (Francja).
Wręczono także nagrody najlepszym zawodnikom turnieju. Nagrodę dla najlepszego bramkarza otrzymał Maciej Styn z Gniewina, dla króla strzelców Maciej Gawiński z Wierzchucina a dla najlepszego zawodnika Dawid Plackowski z Gniewina.
– Nie mielibyśmy nic przeciwko temu, by takim wynikiem zakończyły się tegoroczne Mistrzostwa Europy – stwierdził Zbigniew Boniek, gratulując młodym piłkarzom.
