Gdynianki miały problemy z zdobywaniem punktów z gry – albo traciły piłkę albo pudłowały. AZS natomiast szybko łapał kolejne faule. Po nieco ponad 3 minutach każde kolejne przewinienie „Pszczółek” kończyło się na linii „osobistych”. Lublinianki pewnie prowadziły w pierwszej odsłonie 12:5. Ta przewaga urosła aż do 10 „oczek”. Trener Katarzyna Dydek musiała przerwać tę passę niepowodzeń w wykonaniu swoich podopiecznych. Przyjezdne pierwsze punkty z gry zdobyły dopiero pod koniec kwarty. Dobre zawody rozgrywała powracająca po kontuzji Marta Jujka, która w 10 minut zdobyła 7 punktów. Akademiczki pewnie wygrywały 23:8.
W kolejnej partii Basket odblokował się w ofensywie. Sygnał do ataku dała swoim koleżankom reprezentantka Czarnogóry Jelena Skerović. Lublinianki natomiast spuściły nieco z tonu i rozkręcały się powoli. Taka gra nie zadowalała jednak trenera Krzysztofa Szewczyka. Przy stanie 25:15 tym razem to on sięgnął po przerwę na żądanie. Coraz lepiej spisywały się koszykarki z Gdyni, które mocniej naciskały rywalki w obronie. AZS utrzymywał jednak prowadzenie. W końcówce miejscowe znowu wróciły do skutecznej gry. Zdobyły 12 punktów przy tylko 4 przeciwniczek. Do przerwy akademiczki wygrywały zatem 39:23.
Od dwóch skutecznych akcji rozpoczęły trzecią partię gospodynie. Prym w lubelskiej ekipie wiodła Dominika Owczarzak, która trafiała z niemal każdej klepki. W tej partii dopisała 11 punktów na swoje konto. Miejscowe imponowały także grą pod własnym koszem. Powróciły do taktyki z pierwszej kwarty, czyli twardej obrony. Ta strategia okazała się jak najbardziej słuszna, bo ekipa z Lublina cały czas utrzymywała wyraźną przewagę. Jej gra w ataku nie była już może bardzo imponująca, ale wystarczyła na dowiezienie bezpiecznej przewagi do końca kwarty. Kłopoty gospodyniom sprawiała nowa w ekipie Basketu Ashley Shields, której udało się w 10 minut uzbierać 10 punktów. Przed decydującą odsłoną akademiczki wygrywały 52:37.
Czwarta ćwiartka meczu nie dostarczyła jednak zaskakującej zmiany wyniku. Lubelski zespół pokazał się z bardzo dobrej strony w tym pojedynku. Zasłużenie schodził z parkietu jako zwycięzca. Pszczółka AZS UMCS odniosła 11 wygraną w Tauron Basket Lidze Kobiet. Podopieczne trenera Szewczyka przypieczętowały tym samym i tak już pewny udział w playoffach. Myślę, że ani jeden ani drugi zespół, może trener się nie zgodzi tutaj ze mną, nie rozegrał zawodów na najwyższym poziomie. Wygrał ten zespół, który po prostu był lepszy. Po stronie swojej drużyny mogę powiedzieć, że na pewno musimy popracować po tej przerwie i to porządnie. Zebrać zespół do kupy i popracować nad obroną. Zbyt dużo łatwych punktów. Ja na taką obronę się nie zgadzam. To nie jest nasza filozofia gry na pewno i to musimy poprawić. Natomiast w zespole gospodyń, na pewno duży komplement za taką bardzo dużą determinację i wiele zagrożeń, które stworzył. Jeżeli chce się zagrać dobrą obronę na Lublin, to trzeba wykorzystać wiele swoich „dział”.
Paris Johnson (Basket 90 Gdynia): – To był ciężki mecz. Miałyśmy krótką przerwę, kilka zawodniczek grało w reprezentacjach i do tego jeszcze doszły do nas dwie nowe zawodniczki – Ashley i Marie. Musimy się ze sobą zgrać, więcej trenować razem i wiedzieć na co nas stać. To było widać na parkiecie. Nie wyglądałyśmy jak ten sam zespół co wcześniej. Musimy wrócić do dobrej gry i popracować też nad sobą indywidualnie. Musimy również się lepiej poznać, żeby wiedzieć jakie są nasze typowe zagrania. Trzeba także popracować nad zastawianiem na zbiórkach, walką na tablicach i nad zaangażowaniem. Musimy się skupić na sobie, ale także na byciu zespołem.
Krzysztof Szewczyk (trener Pszczółki AZS UMCS Lublin): – Dziękuję za gratulacje. Zagraliśmy w defensywie moim zdaniem dobre zawody, na dużej takiej agresywności i determinacji. Jeżeli chcemy wygrywać mecze w tej lidze z czołowymi zespołami, musimy tak grać. Tak jak tutaj Kasia Dydek powiedziała, zdecydowanie w ataku było widać tę niespełna trzytygodniową przerwę. Musimy nad tym popracować, żeby ograniczyć liczbę strat, ograniczyć liczbę takich nieprzemyślanych rzutów w ataku, no ale to też wynikało z tego, że przez trzy tygodnie praktycznie nie graliśmy. Nie mogliśmy potrenować pięć na pięć, bo tak naprawdę mamy za sobą dwa treningi kiedy spotkaliśmy się w pełnym składzie. Oczywiście podobna sytuacja była w zespole z Gdyni. My tym zwycięstwem praktycznie przyklepaliśmy sobie 6. miejsce. Chcieliśmy wygrać 13 punktami, żeby zostawić sobie teoretycznie jeszcze jakąś furtkę na to 5. miejsce. Jesteśmy ciągle w grze. Czekają nas teraz dwa ciężkie mecze – z Artego i Wisłą. Pojedziemy się pobić i szykujemy się na playoffy.
Drey Mingo (Pszczółka AZS UMCS Lublin): – Dzisiejszy mecz był naprawdę dobry. Wyszłyśmy na parkiet i wiedziałyśmy, że musimy zagrać mocno w defensywie, bo Gdynia to zespół dobry w podstawowych koszykarskich zagrywkach. Dobrze grają na pick’n’rollach i zawsze dbają o to, żeby mogły zagrać jeszcze to dodatkowe podanie. Obrona zespołowa była naszym głównym zadaniem, a w ataku chciałyśmy, żeby każda z nas dała coś od siebie. Chciałyśmy się też dobrze bawić w ostatnim domowym meczu.
