Na najwyższy stopień podium wpłynęli: Ewa Romaniuk i Katarzyna Goralska w klasie 420, Radosław Furmański w RS:X i Sebastian Kalafarski na Laserze Radialu. Rywalizacja odbyła się w ramach piętnastej edycji Volvo Gdynia Sailing Days.
Piętnastego, przedostatniego dnia piętnastej edycji Volvo Gdynia Sailing Days katamarany zainaugurowały rywalizację w Pucharze A-Class, a w siedmiu konkurencjach młodzieżowych mistrzostw Europy Eurosaf odbyły się wyścigi medalowe. Łącznie na wodzie zaprezentowało się około 150 żeglarzy z siedmiu państw.
W kontynentalnym championacie, poza indywidualnymi medalami, rozegrała się walka o Nation’s Cup. Do punktacji drużynowej każdej federacji liczą się wyniki czterech najlepszych załóg z różnych konkurencji. W każdej z nich dany kraj mógł wystawić po dwie załogi, a dodatkowo mógł sięgnąć po dzikie karty, jeśli w któreś ze specjalności chciał zgłosić więcej startujących.
Przed sobotnimi startami Polska miała taki sam dorobek jak Włochy, a w rywalizacji o zwycięstwo liczyła się także Wielka Brytania, która do liderującego duetu traciła dwa punkty. Indywidualnie do złota pretendowały cztery załogi biało-czerwonych. Biało-czerwoni niemal w stu procentach wykorzystali otwierające się przed nimi szanse.
Pierwsze doskonałe wieści napłynęły z trasy klasy 420. Ewa Romaniuk i Katarzyna Goralska wygrały wyścig medalowy, a tym samym powodzeniem zakończył się ich pościg za pierwszym miejsce, który załoga YKP Gdynia rozpoczęła od 5. lokaty po inauguracyjnym dniu regat. Polki w ramach Volvo Gdynia Sailing Days wygrały już trzecie regaty kobiet! Ich dorobek to kolejno tytuły: międzynarodowych mistrzyń Polski, mistrzyń Europy juniorek oraz młodzieżowych mistrzyń Europy Eurosaf w klasie 420.
– Bezpośrednio po mistrzostwach Europy byłyśmy mocno zmęczone, doszło kłopoty ze sprzętem, ale przetrzymałyśmy kryzys i od środy ruszyłyśmy mocno do przodu, z nową energią. Warto było przycisnąć, skoro do końca regat było tak blisko – mówiła Ewa.
Po krótkich wakacjach, gdynianki mają jeszcze tej jesieni przesiąść się na olimpijską klasę 470. Jeśli ich talent nadal będzie tak szybko się rozwijać, mogą zaatakować miejsce w reprezentacji Polski już na igrzyska w Rio de Janeiro w 2016 roku.
W klasie RS:X prowadzenie utrzymał Radosław Furmański. Deskarz DKŻ Dobrzyń prowadził od początku regat. W wyścigu medalowym jeszcze raz potwierdził wyższość nad najgroźniejszym rywalem. Polak osiągnął metę jako trzeci, a Evgeny Aywazyan (Rosja) był czwarty.
– Jestem aktualnym mistrzem Europy, a na mistrzostwach świata ISAF byłem trzeci, w ostatnim wyścigu spychając z podium właśnie Aywazyana. W Gdyni mierzyłem od początku w zwycięstwo, ale trzeba było się na nie mocno napracować. Po dwóch dobrych deskarzy wystawili Rosjanie i Włosi – podkreślał Furmański.
W tej klasie Polska zdobyła jeszcze medal brązowy, po trzeci miejscu wśród kobiet Zuzanny Czuryło. Natomiast szans na brąz wśród mężczyzn nie wykorzystał Maciej Kluszczyński, który po wyścigu medalowym spadł z 3. na 4. miejsce.
Dwa kolejne kruszce, w tym trzeci z tych najcenniejszych – przyniosła Polsce rywalizacja na Laserze Radialu. 1. miejsce utrzymał Sebastian Kalafarski. Żeglarz Vikinga Toruń wcześniej wypracował sobie przewagę 6 punktów, a zatem w wyścigu medalowym ograniczył się do kontrolowania Gianmarco Planchestainera. W przypadku wygranej Włocha, Polak nie mógł osiągnąć mety poniżej 3 miejsca. I właśnie z tymi pozycjami ci zawodnicy ukończyli regaty.
– Nie powiem, że przyjechałem tutaj wygrać, ale od początku liczyłem na miejsce w pierwszej „3” – zdradził nam Kalafarski, który od pierwszego dnia regat usadowił się na pozycji lidera w tej konkurencji. Dotychczas jego największym sukcesem było 4. miejsce w tej klasie na mistrzostwach świata w 2012 roku.
2. miejsce w Laserze Radialu kobiet zajęła Magdalena Kwaśna. Żeglarce z Chojnic nie udało się pokonać Niemki Hannah Anderssohn w wyścigu medalowym, a to był warunek zmiany na pozycji liderki. Polka była dzisiaj piąta, rywala przypłynęła trzecia.
Wyniki indywidualne ustaliły klasyfikację drużynową. Nations’Cup zdobyła Polska z dorobkiem 39 punktów. Na ten wynik złożyły się zdobycze: Romaniuk i Goralskiej, Kalafarskiego i Furmańskiego (po 10 punktów) oraz Kwaśnej (9).
