To było już czwarte starcie Arki i Miedzi w obecnym sezonie (dwa w lidze i dwa w Pucharze Polski), więc kibice zdążyli się już przyzwyczaić, że mecze z udziałem tych drużyn, to nieustająca wymiana ciosów z obu stron. Nie inaczej był tym razem. W pierwszej połowie oba zespoły miały swoje okazje bramkowe, ale zarówno Andrzej Bledzewski, jak i Michał Szromnik kapitalnie spisywali się między słupkami bramek. Bledzewski nie dał się zaskoczyć nawet przy strzale Adriana Budki z 5 metrów, a Szromnik instynktownie obronił uderzenie głową Piotra Kasperkiewicza z najbliższej odległości. Gdy wydawało się, że pierwsza część meczu zakończy się bezbramkowym remisem, Miedź zdobyła bramkę „do szatni”. Już w doliczonym czasie gry Piotr Madejski dośrodkował z rzut wolnego w pole karne, Szromnik piąstkował piłkę, ale trafił nią w plecy Mateusza Cichockiego, odbita futbolówka spadła na głowę Wojciecha Łobodzińskiego, który skierował ją do siatki. Sędzia asystent pokazał pozycję spaloną legnickiego zawodnika, ale po konsultacji główny arbiter Tomasz Musiał gola uznał. Powtórki telewizyjne pokazały, że podjął słuszną decyzję.
Zaraz po wznowieniu gry Arka wyrównała. Michał Rzuchowski uprzedził obrońców Miedzi i strzelił nie do obrony. Później znów napierała Miedź. W 64. min Łobodziński zagrał miękko w pole karne, Mateusz Szczepaniak wygrał pojedynek z obrońcą, ale głową strzelił obok słupka! Dwie minuty później kilkadziesiąt metrów z piłką przebiegł Patryk Szymański, wpadł w pole karne, ale uderzył niecelnie. Miedź zdobyła zwycięskiego gola w 72. min. Wówczas Madejski zagrał w pole karne, piłkę głową zgrał jeszcze Tomasz Midzierski, a Szczepaniak dopełnił formalności strzałem obok bramkarza! Emocje były do ostatniego gwizdka, bo i jedni i drudzy szukali kolejnych szans bramowych, ale ostatecznie Miedź zwyciężyła 2:1.
Po meczu powiedzieli:
Paweł Sikora (trener Arki): – Gratuluję trenerom Miedzi zwycięstwa. Nie będę zbyt dużo mówił, ale czasem tak jest, że po dobrym meczu się przegrywa. Tak było tym razem. Dzisiaj po dobrym meczu, dobrej grze przegraliśmy. Nie możemy załamywać rąk. Mamy dwa ważne mecze przed sobą. Musimy w nich zdobyć punkty i dalej będziemy dążyli do tego celu który mamy zaplanowany.
Jest do zdobycia 27 punktów. Jesteśmy zespołem, który potrafi się podnieść. W dwóch najbliższych meczach musimy wygrać. Ja już nie myślę o tym co było, a o tym co będzie.
Adam Fedoruk (trener Miedzi): – Tym meczem zakończyliśmy serię spotkań z czterema bardzo silnymi rywalami. To były Katowice, Górnik Łęczna, Bełchatów i Arka. Podsumowując je, wygraliśmy dwa z nich. To progres, bo do tej pory nie udawało nam się wygrywać z tymi najsilniejszymi. Cieszymy się z tego. Zespół bardzo chciał wygrać to spotkanie. Zaangażowanie było na najwyższym poziomie. Każdy chciał odbierać piłkę, każdy był zaangażowany w akcję ofensywną. Chcielibyśmy, aby każdy mecz tak wyglądał, ale wiemy, że tak się nie da, bo ta forma raz zwyżkuje, raz jest na niższym poziomie. Dzisiaj wszyscy zasłużyli na słowa uznania i cieszymy się, że po dwóch porażkach udało nam się podnieść. To dla nas ważne zwycięstwo i zespół dzięki temu uwierzy, że może wygrać z najlepszymi i w poozstałych meczach również będziemy zdobywać punkty.
Wiedzieliśmy, że w meczu z Arką padną bramki, bo Arka ma skuteczny zespół. Cieszymy się, że straciliśmy tylko jedną. Słowa uznania dla całego zespołu.
Mateusz Szczepaniak, napastnik Miedzi: – Cieszę się, że wreszcie się przełamałem i strzeliłem zwycięskiego gola. Radość jest podwójna, bo zrewanżowaliśmy się Arce za porażkę w Pucharze Polski.
